Is a healthy diet enough to maintain good health?

Do you want to stay healthy? If you ask this to someone, then it is obvious to hear the positive answer. Is taking a healthy diet and regular exercise enough to maintain a good health? Now people will start thinking about the answer! The answer is no because we are aware of healthy diet and exercise, but we know nothing about the absorption of nutrients in our digestive system which is much more important. If our digestive system face problem to absorb calories and nutrients then the healthier diet has nothing to do! So, what you need to do? The solution is simple. Maintain a healthy gut environment by eating good bacteria!

Confused? Let’s make it clear by drawing an example. Think of our intestine as soil and grass: the villi (a finger-like projection of the small intestine) are like the soil and the layer of good bacteria is like the grass covering the soil. If we go through a perennial grass field and we do something to strip the grass, then the soil will become eroded. If we let this to happen for a long period of time, we will get further erosion of soil and find cracks in the soil and the surface material will start seeping into the groundwater. This is exactly the same process that happens in the human gut. We “strip the grass” by using antibiotics, processed foods, dysbiosis and some other genetic reasons. All these factors create an unhealthy gut environment. And you can get rid of this by taking “Probiotics”, food containing beneficial bacteria. This bacteria work in the digestive system to improve absorption of calories and nutrients and prevents us from becoming malnourished.

Most of the probiotics available in the market are designed and produced in a way so that a sufficient amount of bacteria will survive through the digestive passage to promote health benefits. For example, Lactobacillus rhamnosus is known to be beneficial for human health. It is claimed that this bacteria helps to make a balance of the intestinal microflora, reduce intestinal permeability in people who are suffering from irritable bowel syndrome and counter alcohol related intestinal permeability. By improving digestion, body process nutrients better and generally create conditions that prevent the building up of body fat. It is also considered useful in the prevention of various diseases like rotavirus diarrhea, respiratory tract infection and atopic dermatitis in children. A research published in the British Journal of Nutrition (2013) suggests that Lactobacillus rhamnosus may increase weight loss in the woman who are dieting and you will be surprised to know that the woman in the study lost almost twice the weight compared to the neutral group. Also, this bacterium helps to reduce anxiety.

Hope this article will help you to understand the importance of good bacteria. So, why you are waiting for? Make it simple. Eat healthy diet, exercise regularly, abstain from smoking, drink plenty of fluids and add “Probiotics” as your daily food. It’s never too late to start anything new when it comes to health.
